What's The Difference Between The Vermont Classic And The Cham

The Vermont Classic and the Cham are two timeless sunglasses. Both are loaded with technology and style, making them equally perfect for high-mountain adventures or visiting your local brewery. So why choose one over the other? Read on to learn what’s what between these two iconic sunglasses.

Timeless. Iconic. These two words are commonly associated with the Vermont Classic and Cham sunglasses. They are, after all, our signature heritage styles. But don’t let the design fool you—both sunglasses are loaded with features that make them at home in any mountain environment.

But what’s the difference between the two styles?

Julbo Vermont Classic

The Vermont Classic are traditional mountaineering sunglasses and a timeless classic that celebrates Julbo’s 130-year history in the mountains.

The Frame: The Vermont Classic's metal frames have been tested and approved by generations of mountaineers. While these frames are slightly heavier than their polycarbonate counterparts, they’ll bend instead of breaking in the event of an accident. While the Chams offer an aviator-shaped frame, the Vermont Classic is round, with iconic style and a slightly smaller fit.

Grip Tech Temples with Earbend offer a flexible fit, added security and comfort and won’t stick to hair or hats. The temple ends wrap snugly around the ear.

Like the Cham, the Vermont Classic has leather side shields and a nosepiece, however only the Vermont Classic's nosepiece is removable.

Lenses: The Vermont Classic's circular shape is a throwback to the classic mountaineering sunglasses, available with polycarbonate Spectron lenses or mineral Alti Arc lenses.

Spectron lenses are designed to offer powerful protection for mountain trekking and mountaineering, with an anti-reflective coating to improve visual comfort and a flash finish that improves the filtration of visible light. The Spectron 3 Polarized lens offers additional protection from glare and reflected light. Spectron lenses are less scratch-resistant than mineral lenses.

Alti Arc lenses provide excellent scratch resistance and superior optical quality that sets an industry benchmark for glacier glasses. They’re the only mineral lenses that Julbo offers and have an external anti-reflective coating to improve visual comfort by eliminating stray reflections and a flash finish that improves the filtration of visible light by applying a mirror effect to the lens. Mineral lenses are more fragile than Spectron or Reactiv lenses.

The Cham is another mountaineering classic and a staple of the Julbo line.

The Frame: Like the Vermont Classic, the Cham is equipped with a classic metal frame that offers durability and security. The temple arms, which feature a soft Grip Tech material, offer 360° of adjustability so they can be shaped for a custom fit. The Cham has Grip Nose Pads for additional comfort and security.

The Cham’s leather side shields and nosepiece, which provide protection from glare and sunlight, are entirely removable. Overall the Cham fits slightly larger than the Vermont Classic.
