Professional Off-Road Cyclist

I am a 25 year old off-road cyclist from Nelson, New Zealand. I started out racing multisport (trail running, cycling and kayaking) then focussed on World Cup XCO mountain biking through my Junior and U23 years. Now I am based in the US (Blacksburg, VA), racing mostly gravel, but my heart is still in MTB. I love this sport because every race is so different and takes you to many new places.
The strengths that help me win races are being aero, braking less and eating more than others. My weakness is long steep climbs but my goal is to improve this for the Leadville 100 MTB 2026.
Some lesser-known facts about me are that I have a Forestry Engineering Degree and I can play the flute while riding a unicycle.
My favourite Julbo model is the Edge, with the 1-3 Reactive lens, because I often start my ride way too late and end up coming home in the dark!
My advice for someone looking to get into sport competitively is: Focus on the type of riding YOU find the most rewarding or enjoyable. This is what you will want to put the most hours into. More hours on the bike is the best way to improve.
