Yuri Hauswald Gets "Lost On Purpose"

Throughout California's Lost Sierra lie 15 towns and an expansive network of dirt roads and new trails. Yuri Hauswald recently traveled there to learn how these trails and access to public land can buoy the struggling economies in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. And he learned by riding.
Hauswald found hundreds of miles of dirt roads connecting Susanville to Verdi, pieced together by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in an effort called the Connected Communities Project. “The overall system will be well over 600 miles when all the singletrack town-connector trails are built and added to the ready-to-ride forest roads,” Hauswald says.
And, he adds, “there’s plenty of adventure to be had right now.”
